Wow, the hate in this comment section is a bit unbelievable.
He could’ve pulled an Uber, he could’ve pulled a WeWork, he could’ve furloughed at 50% pay reduction like other companies, perpetually dangling on a cliff waiting for that 50% to turn into a layoff, he could’ve pulled what every other company pulls.
I’ve been let go from startups 3 times in 10 years, during strong economies, and got the usual “one week to turn in your laptop and receive your month of severance, sign yourself up for Cobra insurance for $900/month, and here’s your NDA to sign saying there were no damages. Sorry, we made bad decisions. Good luck.”
Ask someone who part of the Airbnb layoff and ask them how they feel about having a year of health insurance coverage and recruiters working on their behalf, rather than try to crucify from the sidelines.
